Word Services
To each project I bring expertise in copy and stylistic editing—identifying and resolving errors; knowing the rules and also when it’s okay to break them. Altogether, I work in the service of each author’s connection to their audience. This skill-set, together with my specialist areas and an unwavering admiration for the skilfully placed em-dash, allows me to be comfortable working in multiple disciplines and genres.
As an editor I collaborate with writers in diverse subjects and media. I provide the following services for writing projects that include (but are not limited to) monographs, book chapters, journal articles and reviews, annotated bibliographies, theses, dissertations, capstone projects (in Chicago, APA, MLA citation styles), and for the book and magazine trade.
copy editing
Edit for clarity, factual accuracy, coherency, as well as adherence to an editorial style guide; ensure that statements are supported and graphics, figures, and tables are consistent with text.
stylistic editing
Edit for concise, unambiguous expression while resolving style inconsistencies to deepen understanding, knowledge, and engagement for the required reading level; create coherent transitions between paragraphs and sentences.
proofreading
A final check in the publication process for correction of any formatting, spelling, punctuation, and citations errors. This service ensures that your work is publication-ready.
indexing
THIS SECTION IS CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.
From The Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition):
“An index, a highly organized, detailed counterpart to a table of contents and other navigational aids, is also insurance—in searchable texts—against fruitless queries and unintended results.”
And from Kevin Jackson, Invisible Forms (1999):
“A good index has the satisfying qualities of all skilled workmanship; an inspired index may be a thing of joy—sometimes wittier, more eloquent and more enlightening than the book whose train it follows with such deceptive humility.”
